Multi-Flex Gel: The Ultimate Product Benefits

Luminary Multi-Flex Gel is more than just a base coat; it is an all-in-one structural system.

Benefit Category Key Feature Advantage for the Client
Strength & Durability Acrylic Strength Provides a rigid structure that prevents natural nails from flexing, which is the main cause of breaks and chips.
Flexibility & Health Soft Gel Flexibility The cured product has enough give to absorb impact, preventing a hard snap or shatter. It reduces stress on the natural nail.
Time & Cost Savings Base + Color in One Eliminates the need for a separate base gel and saves time by requiring fewer coats of color.
Ease of Removal Soak-Off Formula Unlike traditional hard gel or acrylic, it can be soaked off with acetone (after filing away the bulk), making removal gentle on the natural nail.
Longevity Non-Lifting Formula With proper prep, the manicure can last 3-4 weeks with zero chipping, making it ideal for high-impact lifestyles and hand-washers.
Natural Nail Growth Protective Layer It acts as a protective shield, allowing weak or brittle nails to grow long and strong underneath the product.
Perfect Finish Self-Leveling Medium Viscosity Easy for the technician to manipulate and effortlessly creates a beautiful apex (arch) that perfectly contours the nail for a structured, flawless appearance.

The Ultimate Luminary Application Guide

Nail Preparation

The goal is to create a bone-dry, oil-free, perfectly clean nail plate for maximum adhesion. Do not soak the nails in water before application.

Traditional Manicure Prep (Dry)

  1. Remove Existing Product: Use an e-file (Carbide/Ceramic bit) or file to gently remove any existing gel polish or the majority of the old Luminary product down to a thin, non-lifting layer.

  2. Shaping: Use a fine-grit file (e.g., 180-grit) to shape the free edge to the desired length and shape.

  3. Cuticle Work:

    • Use a cuticle pusher to gently push back the proximal nail fold (the skin) and remove any pterygium (non-living tissue) adhered to the nail plate.

    • Use nippers or scissors to carefully trim any non-living, hangnail, or excess cuticle skin.

  4. Buffing: Lightly buff the entire nail plate with a fine buffer block (240 grit or higher) to remove shine and any remaining surface debris.

Russian-Style Manicure Prep (E-File Dry Method)

  1. Remove Existing Product: Same as the Traditional method.

  2. Shaping: File the free edge.

  3. Cuticle Exfoliation: Using a fine-grit flame or cone-shaped e-file bit (in the forward direction for the right side, reverse for the left), gently exfoliate the skin around the lateral nail folds and under the cuticle, lifting the proximal nail fold away from the nail plate.

  4. Cuticle Removal: Use a specialized nipper or a fine ball bit to carefully trim/clean any remaining dead cuticle skin for a clean, "fresh out of the skin" look.

  5. Cleanse: Use a lint-free wipe saturated with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) or a professional nail dehydrator to scrub the nail plate. This removes all dust and oils.

Luminary Multi-Flex Gel Application

The key to Luminary is the "slip layer" and the "bead application" to build a stress-resistant structure (apex).

Step 1: Primer (Commit) Application (Optional but Recommended)

  • Purpose: Luminary's Commit Primer is a non-acidic bonding agent that significantly boosts adhesion, especially for clients prone to lifting or if you plan to do a fill/rebalance service.

  • Application: Apply a single, thin coat of Commit Primer to the entire prepared nail plate, avoiding the skin. Let it air dry (it will remain slightly tacky). Do not cure.

Step 2: The Slip/Base Layer

  1. Apply: Pick up a small amount of Multi-Flex Gel (Clarity, or a color of choice) and apply a very thin, scrubbing layer over the entire nail plate, from cuticle to free edge. Ensure you cap the free edge.

  2. Cure: Cure for 60 seconds LED (or according to Luminary's lamp instructions, often using a Pulse feature to prevent heat spike). Note: This cured layer is now the foundation for your structure.

Step 3: The Bead & Apex Application (Structure Building)

  1. Apply Slip Layer (Uncured): Apply a second, thin layer of Multi-Flex Gel, but DO NOT CURE IT. This acts as a "slip layer" for the structure bead to float and self-level on.

  2. Place the Bead: Pick up a medium-to-large bead of gel on your brush. Place the bead near the center of the nail, closer to the cuticle.

  3. Float the Gel: Gently use the brush to glide the bead toward the free edge and down the sides, letting the gel self-level.

    • Technique Focus: The most gel should be concentrated in the stress area (center of the nail) to create the apex (the highest point of the arch).

  4. Check Apex & Side Profile:

    • The Flip: Turn the client's hand upside down for a few seconds. Gravity will pull the gel to the center of the nail, creating a perfect, smooth arch (apex). Use a detail brush to guide the gel if necessary.

    • The Line of Light: Flip the hand back over and look at the reflection of the light—it should show a straight, symmetrical line flowing over the apex.

  5. Cure: Place the hand flat into the light and cure for a full 60 seconds LED.

Finishing Steps

Step 4: Finish Filing (Optional)

  • If you need to perfect the shape or smooth out any unevenness, cleanse the nail with 91% IPA to remove the tacky inhibition layer.

  • File the surface using a fine-grit file or a soft-grit e-file barrel bit.

  • Cleanse the nail again thoroughly to remove all dust.

Step 5: Color Application (If Desired)

  • If you used a Luminary colored gel as your final color, skip this step.

  • If you are applying a separate gel polish color, apply it directly over the Multi-Flex gel (do NOT wipe the tacky layer if you didn't file). Apply and cure as normal.

Step 6: Top Coat

  1. Apply a layer of Luminary's Empower Top Coat (No-Wipe) or Empower Matte Top Coat over the entire nail, ensuring you cap the free edge.

  2. Cure for 60 seconds LED.

Step 7: Final Touch

  • Apply a generous drop of cuticle oil to the skin around the nail and massage it in. The service is complete!
